Doniger & Engstrand, LLP was formed in 1990. We are a husband and wife civil litigation partnership. Our law firm concentrates in complex Medical Negligence Litigation, catastrophic Personal Injury Litigation, Divorce and Matrimonial Litigation, Business Litigation, Identity Theft Litigation, Constitutional Rights Litigation, Trust and Estate Litigation, Elder Law Guardianship Proceedings, Real Estate Litigation, Commercial Foreclosure Litigation, Equestrian Law and Charitable Foundations Law.
Wende Doniger, the managing partner, holds a doctorate of philosophy degree in psychology from Columbia University and a law degree from Cardozo School of Law. Her husband, Dan Engstrand, is a magna cum laude graduate from St. John’s University School of Law where he attended with a full academic scholarship and graduated second from the top of his class.
Although located on Long Island, the Doniger & Engstrand law firm has a commanding presence in New York City. The firm has successfully tried many cases to verdict in both the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York as well as the New York State Supreme Court throughout Suffolk, Nassau, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx and Manhattan. In addition, the firm has argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit as well as the New York State Appellate Courts for the First and Second Departments.
As active participants in our community, Doniger & Engstrand’s pro bono activities involve being corporate counsel to Smithtown Hunt, Inc., one of the country’s oldest non-profit, 501(c)(3), charitable organizations which, for the past 100 years, has been dedicated to preserving Long Island’s land and natural resources. Other pro bono activities include being corporate counsel to The Long Island Spinal Cord Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, which is dedicated to finding a cure for spinal cord injuries. Recently the firm has donated its time to coaching a high school mock trial team to make it to the quarter finals in the N.Y.S. High School Mock Trial Tournament.
The partners of Doniger & Engstrand are actively involved with the Suffolk County Bar Association, where they are frequent lecturers. Wende Doniger is a former Officer of the Suffolk Academy of Law, which is the educational arm of the Suffolk County Bar Association. Currently, Wende Doniger is on the Advisory Committee for the Suffolk Academy of Law. In addition, Wende Doniger is currently an adjunct professor of law at St. John’s University School of Law in Jamaica, where she teaches Advanced Trial Advocacy. Wende Doniger has recently completed her tenure as the Director of the PEACE Program for the Suffolk County Courts. Previously, she was a clinical instructor of pediatrics at New York Medical College and the former Acting Director of Continuing Legal Education at the Touro Law Center in Huntington, New York. Dan Engstrand has recently been elected as an Officer to the Suffolk Academy of Law. In addition, Dan Engstrand has previously taught Advanced Trial Advocacy at his alma mater, St. John’s University School of Law, as an adjunct professor of law for ten years. Both partners are frequent lecturers for the Suffolk County Bar Association’s Academy of Law.
Although originally based in the World Trade Center area, with a presence in Suffolk County, since the tragic events of September 11th, Doniger & Engstrand has now made Suffolk County its permanent home. The firm has recently restored an historic, 200 year-old building located at 12 Bayview Avenue in Northport Village, to be their permanent headquarters.
